Participants will explore iconic songs from the Motown repertoire while developing confidence as solo performers and as part of an ensemble. Students will strengthen their vocal technique, stage presence, choreography, and acting skills—all while working collaboratively to bring this high-energy musical experience to life.

Students will learn how to play a variety of musical instruments using a personalized approach. Students don't have to know which instrument they want to play when they start. Staff will help explore and find what they'd like to learn. Participants will learn basic music skills including rhythm, melody, and harmony as well as music theory. The goal is for each individual to make playing music a meaningful part of their lives both individually and with others. Social music making opportunities will be explored when they are ready and interested.

Nothing is better than playing music together! Participants will learn the basics of making music in a group including playing together with a steady beat, group singing and movement to music. A variety of songs and musical activities will reinforce skills learned. Participants will learn to play bongos, congas, maracas, rhythms sticks and more. No prior skills necessary.

Step into the spotlight and develop your on-air presence in this exciting anchor-person experience! Participants will learn how to project their voice, articulate clearly, control pacing, and read scripts with confidence—including news, sports, and entertainment segments. After guided practice, students will be filmed in front of a green screen to create their very own “live broadcast” moment.
This engaging class strengthens communication skills, builds confidence, and supports both professional and everyday speaking success.

MOVIE MAKING CLASS (Section 1)
Thursday 9:15-10:30 am
Lights, camera, action! In this hands-on filmmaking experience, participants will create an original movie to be featured at Music For Life’s Annual Film Festival. Students will step into both on-screen and behind-the-scenes roles—learning acting, camera operation, lighting, sound, and how all the elements come together to produce a finished film. The script, developed in our Winter Screenwriting Class, will come to life as participants rotate between cast and crew roles, gaining a full understanding of the moviemaking process. This collaborative class builds creativity, confidence, teamwork, and valuable technology skills—all while making a real movie to celebrate on the big screen!
Goals: Acting, videotaping, and working together.

BUILDING GROUP MUSIC SKILLS CLASS
Thursday 1-2pm
Build foundational music skills in this class. Students will learn how to keep a steady beat, play a variety of rhythms and learn the basics of melody. Students will learn to play percussion instruments, with a focus on snare drum and conga drums, and xylophone. Students will build music skills that will prepare and support them in group music making opportunities including bands and drum circles.

Learn to sing, play an instrument, write and record songs with a personalized approach. Students will learn how to play a variety of musical instruments using a personalized approach. They will learn basic music skills including rhythm, melody, and harmony as well as music theory. The goal is for them to make playing music a meaningful part of their lives both individually and with others. Social music-making opportunities will be explored when they are ready and interested.
