INDIVIDUAL MUSIC LESSONS

Students will learn how to play a variety of musical instruments using a personalized approach. Students don't have to know which instrument they want to play when they start. Staff will help explore and find what they'd like to learn. Participants will learn basic music skills including rhythm, melody, and harmony as well as music theory. The goal is for each individual to make playing music a meaningful part of their lives both individually and with others. Social music making opportunities will be explored when they are ready and interested.

Build your drumming and rhythm skills as you learn how to play in a drumline. Learn to play a variety of common “drum line” beats, how to play together AND how to march and play the drums. The goal is to get the group ready to march in an actual parade.

Create stories based on nature and the natural world. Build your video shooting, editing and storytelling skills. Participants will learn to edit using Wondershare’s Filmora video editing software.

ART CLASS 

Mondays 10:45-12noon

FALL: COLLAGE, QUILL ART, & PAPER MACHE:  Build your art skills through working with the techniques of quill art paper mache. Quill art is a beautiful and fun technique of rolling colored paper and cutting the rolls. Then experiment with re-assembling the rolls into beautiful designs. Paper mache is a 3 dimensional technique in which you apply strips of paper mache gauze and make interesting 3 dimensional artwork. This class will help improve your creativity, art skills and the ability to manipulate materials into wonderful designs.

WINTER: COMIC BOOKS & GRAPHIC NOVELS: Build your art skills through coming up with and illustrating your own stories. Choose characters, design what they look like and then make your book!! This class will help improve your creativity, art skills and the ability to tell a story through pictures and art.

SPRING: GRAPHIC DESIGN, POSTERS, SIGNS, & MORE: Build your art skills through working with the graphic design. Learn how to design and layout posters, signs and more. Work free hand and on computers. Poster design has a long history and is filled with many opportunities to learn how to create eye catching art. And some of your art will be used in professional settings to promote Music For Life events. This class will help improve your creativity, art skills and the ability to make art that catches the eye.

Continue to build music percussion skills as you learn how to play music together. Participants will learn how to play percussion parts while singing, sing call-and-response songs and have multiple percussion parts playing at same time. This is a great class to reinforce skills needed to play in a band!

Build your musical theater skills in this fun class including singing, acting and dancing. Work alongside professional actors as you learn what it takes to be a working actor. Learn how to sing alone and with a chorus. Learn how to follow complicated choreography. Learn how to engage in interactive dialogue.

Learn to work with a variety of art mediums in this ever-popular class. Paint, draw, make collage and sculpture! Each class starts with a short art lesson on an artist, medium or theme. Participants will build skills and then have the opportunity to continue working on their projects.

Nothing is better than playing music together! Participants will learn the basics of making music in a group including playing together with a steady beat, group singing and movement to music. A variety of songs and musical activities will reinforce skills learned. Participants will learn to play bongos, congas, maracas, rhythms sticks and more. No prior skills necessary.

FALL: ARTISTS AND STYLES: Build your knowledge of famous artists and learn how to create art in their styles. You will learn to work with a variety of medium including painting, drawing, collage and sculpture. Find inspiration from professional artists while you develop your own style.

WINTER: MINDFULNESS & ART: Learn to focus on the "process" of art making to keep you in the present. Explore a long history of art that is used to bring us into the here and now. You will build skills in making mandalas, Japanese painting and more. This is a fun AND relaxing class.

SPRING: DIORAMA & 3D ART

Learn to work in 3 dimensions as you build your diorama and sculpture skills. Learn to design and then assemble your diorama. Learn to think in 3 dimensions. Learn to build your projects using a wide variety of objects.

FALL: VOICE OVER: Build your acting skills using ONLY your voice. You will learn to voice characters in cartoons, be a sports or news announcer, or record audio for an audio book. Practice with professional USB microphones and record actual projects. Projects will be published on Music For Life's social media pages. This is a great class to learn how to use your voice professionally.

WINTER: PODCAST: Learn to keep an audience interested through creating a podcast. You'll learn how to tell a story, how to interview people and how to communicate clearly through the podcast medium. This is always a popular and fun class.

SPRING: SONGWRITING: Learn how to write songs in a variety of formats. Write a 12 bar blues, an AABA song and a story song. Explore how professional songwriters use words and structure and then apply to your own works. Put your words to music and sing or have others sing your songs.
