Learn to act, sing and dance in a musical! This Fall's show is “The Greatest Showman".  The show is fun and touching and filled with great songs! The performance will be at a professional theater, Elmwood Playhouse, in Nyack on Saturday Dec 9th.

9:15 - 10:30am MOVIE MAKING CLASS SESSION - PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

This class will put the finishing touches on our “Band” movie. Focus will be on filming and editing last parts needed, making music videos and adding titles and transitions.  The class is led by a professional filmmaker. Our film will be screened late November and early December 2023.

Goals: Video shooting and editing and storytelling skills

10:45 - 12noon STOP MOTION ANIMATION CLASS

Anyone can make an animated short film in this fun class! Using the Stop Motion app, participants will learn how to use a cell phone camera to shoot their projects. They will also learn how to add music and titles to their short films. Note: there is a free version of the app or the premium version (recommended) is $5.99

Goals: Technology skills, film skills and self expression

12:45 - 2pm PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE CLASS

Ever hear a drum line or Stomp, the musical? In this energetic class, participants will learn how to play percussion in a group. Learn to balance your rhythm with the rhythms of others.

Goals: Acting skills, communication and spontaneity

5 - 5:45pm SMALL BAND CLASS - ongoing

Learn how to play in a band in this class with 3 - 4 participants. Learn how to start and stop a song, play in same tempo with others and share your music with the world! NOTE: Some prior musical skills required for this class so please check with Jeffrey.

5:45-7pm PRE-PROFESSIONAL THEATER CLASS - Session 1 (must also sign up for Session 2 on Thursdays)

Fall focus for our pre-professional theater class is an exciting opportunity to act in a professionally produced SHADOW PUPPET SHOW! The show will be presented on Sunday November 5th. The rest of the semester will focus on the Spring production of SHREK alongside of professional actors from Elmwood Playhouse. Shrek will be performed at Elmwood Playhouse in June 2024. NOTE: This class is limited to participants with prior training at Music For Life. We also have a Saturday musical theater class for participants who are still building their theater skills. See below.

9:15 - 10:30am “FALL MOVES” DANCE CLASS:

Learn some new dance moves as you start the day with some moving and grooving. Build skills in coordinating your body to music and build your repertoire of fun dances. This always popular class is fun, educational and exercise!

10:45 - 12noon OPEN ART STUDIO CLASS - ongoing
Express yourself with a variety of art mediums in this ever popular class. Paint, draw, make collage and sculpture! Each class starts with a short art lesson.

11am - 12noon SMALL GROUP MUSIC MAKING CLASS

Nothing is better than playing music together! Participants will learn the basics of making music in a group including playing together with a steady beat, group singing and movement to music. A variety of songs and musical activities will reinforce skills learned. Participants will learn to play bongos, congas, maracas, rhythms sticks and more. No prior skills necessary.

12:45 - 2pm MFL TV SHOW SEASON 3: Variety Show Theme

This season of MFL’s own TV show will focus on the “variety show” format. Learn how to video, edit and produce a TV show. Participants will share their talents in front of and in back of the camera. Participants will learn technology that they can use at home to make their own videos. 

Goals: Videography, creativity and cooperation

Learn relaxation, build imagination and reduce stress through art making. This colorful class involves drawing with pastels, pencils and markers and water colors. Participants will be amazed at what they create!

10:45 - 12noon MFL ADULT FALL CHORUS

Build your group singing skills in the ongoing MFL ADULT CHORUS. This is an always 

popular class! Focus this fall will range from unison singing to 2 part singing to using percussion instruments during singing.

10:45 - 12noon SMALL GROUP PERFORMANCE CLASS

NOTE: This class is for participants with advanced skill on a musical instrument. Participants will learn how to set up and perform in professional environments including farmer’s markets, senior centers and restaurants.

We’re bringing back the Podcast Class! Learn how to interview people and record/edit audio as we make our own MFL podcast! Special guests will be interviewed throughout the semester.

4 - 5pm “FALL FUN” DANCE CLASS:

It’s time to get down to some exciting dance songs! Dancing is good exercise and it’s also a great social activity. Knowing the moves to a couple of dances will make every party so much more fun!
