Individual Music Lessons
Learn to sing, play an instrument, write and record songs with a personalized approach.
Music Lessons Description: Students will learn how to play a variety of musical instruments using a personalized approach. They will learn basic music skills including rhythm, melody and harmony as well as music theory. The goal is for them to make playing music a meaningful part of their lives both individually and with others. Social music making opportunities will be explored when they are ready and interested.

Art Lessons Description: Students will explore a variety of mediums as they learn to express themselves through art. They will explore painting, drawing and collage. They will increase their skills in using art materials and in understanding how color, shape and image express different ideas, thoughts and emotions. Projects will include 2 and 3 dimensional work.

11:30 - 12:45am ADULT MUSICAL THEATER CLASS:
Learn to act, sing and dance in a musical! This Winter's show is “Guys & Dolls". The show is fun and touching and filled with great songs! The performance will be at a professional theater, Elmwood Playhouse, in Nyack on Saturday April 20th.
Goals: Acting, singing and dancing skills

MONDAYS January 8th - April 15th (14 weeks)
9:15 - 10:30am VIDEO EDITING LAB
This class is a great opportunity to work on video editing skills on our state-of-the-art computers. Participants will work on editing personal documentaries (from Wednesday 9:15am class) and on MFL TV Show (from Tuesday 12:45pm class) as well as on own projects.

10:45 - 12noon QUILL ART CLASS
Quill art is a beautiful combination of collage, sculpture and drawing. Participants will draw simple designs, roll up colored paper and then glue on top of the drawings. The results are magical! Skills include drawing, 3D art and collage skills. In addition, this art helps develop fine motor art skills.
Goals: Art skills, fine motor skills and self expression

12:45 - 2pm GROUP MUSIC MAKING CLASS
Build your group music making skills in this fun class! Participants will build their ability to maintain a steady beat, echo/copy simple rhythms and play a variety of percussion instruments in a group setting. This is a great class to reinforce skills needed to play in a band!

Learn how to play in a band in this class with 3 - 4 participants. Learn how to start and stop a song, play in same tempo with others and share your music with the world! NOTE: Some prior musical skills required for this class so please check with Jeffrey.

5:45-7pm PRE-PROFESSIONAL THEATER CLASS - Session 1 (must also sign up for Session 2 on Thursdays)
Winter focus for our pre-professional theater class is an exciting opportunity to act in a professionally produced SHREK, the musical! The show will be presented June 20 - 23. Shrek will be performed at Elmwood Playhouse in June 2024. NOTE: This class is limited to participants with prior training at Music For Life. We also have a Saturday musical theater class for participants who are still building their theater skills. See below.

Let's warmup up with some dancing! Learn some new dance moves as you start the day with some moving and grooving. Build skills in coordinating your body to music and build your repertoire of fun dances. This always popular class is fun, educational and exercise!

11am - 12noon SMALL GROUP MUSIC MAKING CLASS
Nothing is better than playing music together! Participants will learn the basics of making music in a group including playing together with a steady beat, group singing and movement to music. A variety of songs and musical activities will reinforce skills learned. Participants will learn to play bongos, congas, maracas, rhythms sticks and more. No prior skills necessary.

12:45 - 2pm MFL TV SHOW SEASON 3: Zoom Theme
This season of MFL’s own TV show will focus on the “Zoom TV Show” format. The show will be a combination of interactive fun songs, games and skits. Learn how to video, edit and produce a TV show. Participants will share their talents in front of and in back of the camera. Participants will learn technology that they can use at home to make their own videos.

Make your own short documentaries! Learn how to tell short stories with video, editing and special effects. This class is led by professional filmmaker. Participants will learn how to use video equipment and how to tell a story! The short films will be screen in our own movie festival!

Learn relaxation, build imagination and reduce stress through art making. This class involves will focus on Asian painting. Participants will be amazed at what they create!

Build your group singing skills in the ongoing MFL ADULT CHORUS. This is an always
popular class! Focus this winter will range from unison singing to 2 part singing to using percussion instruments during singing.

We’re expanding the Podcast Class to include video interviews as well! Learn how to interview people and record/edit vide and audio as we make our own MFL podcast and video blog! Interviews will be added to our Tuesday MFL TV Show class. Special guests will be interviewed throughout the semester.
