Fun, social and challenging arts-based programming for children, teens and adults. ALL SKILLS, ABILITIES and CHALLENGES WELCOME. Through music, art, theater and movement, our students build valuable functional and arts skills and form meaningful relationships.
We serve people who are developing typically as well as those with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, social and emotional challenges, TBI from illness or injury, Alzheimer’s and dementia, and those going through difficult life transitions and more.

Learn to build important functional skills through music including language and communication, self confidence, focus and attention, memory and social-emotional skills

Individual Music Lessons
Learn to sing, play an instrument, write and record songs with a personalized approach
Music Lessons Description: Students will learn how to play a variety of musical instruments using a personalized approach. They will learn basic music skills including rhythm, melody and harmony as well as music theory. The goal is for them to make playing music a meaningful part of their lives both individually and with others. Social music making opportunities will be explored when they are ready and interested.

Individual Art Lessons
Experience the joys of creating art while exploring a variety of art mediums with a personalized approach
Art Lessons Description: Students will explore a variety of mediums as they learn to express themselves through art. They will explore painting, drawing and collage. They will increase their skills in using art materials and in understanding how color, shape and image express different ideas, thoughts and emotions. Projects will include 2 and 3 dimensional work.
FEES: $60/30 mins, $85/45 mins, $120/60 mins

9:15 - 10:30am MOVIE MAKING CLASS: Video Shooting & Editing
Let's make a movie! Music For Life is making a documentary about our bands and you can help make it! Participants will learn how to shoot and edit video and tell a story through the short documentary format.
Goals: Video shooting and editing skills and story telling

Learn to play board and card games in this fun social class. From checkers to Monopoly.
This class is always a hit!
Goals: Board games skills, winning and losing and social interaction.

10:45 - 12noon PAINTING SKILLS ART CLASS
Let’s build art skills with a class focusing on painting. Participants will learn to use water colors, acrylic and tempera paints. They will explore a variety of styles as they create works of art!

12:45 - 2pm ACTING CLASS: From Broadway to Hollywood
Learn acting skills for stage and film through theater games, improv, one minute movies and scenes. All geared toward relating to others on stage, how to present to an audience, adapting language and building confidence!
Goals: Acting skills, communication skills and confidence

9:15 - 10:30am MINDFULNESS MOVEMENT & DANCE CLASS
It's time to stretch, breath and dance! Participants will increase their relaxation and breathing skills along with learning some new dance steps! Great way to start the day.

10:45 - 12noon OPEN ART STUDIO CLASS: Express yourself with a variety of art mediums in this ever popular class. Paint, draw, make collage and sculpture! Each class starts with a short art lesson.

12:45 - 2pm MFL TV SHOW SEASON 3: Filming, editing and acting
Season 3 continues with building interviewing, shooting and editing skills. Participants will learn how to use cameras and editing software as well as to communicate on camera and work together. Participants will learn technology that they can use at home to make their own videos.
Goals: Videography, creativity and cooperation

2 - 2:45pm SMALL BAND CLASS
Learn how to play in a band in this class with 3 - 4 participants. Learn how to start and stop a song, play in same tempo with others and share your music with the world! NOTE: Some prior musical skills required for this class so please check with Jeffrey.
Goals: Music skills, self expression and creativity.

Join the growing Nyack Folk Art Company as it designs, makes and sells art-based products. Participants will learn design and business skills. Products include greeting cards and tote bags. Products will be continue to be sold in our online store AND this semester we will explore partnerships with retail organizations throughout Rockland County.

10:45 - 12noon MFL ADULT CHORUS:
Build your group singing skills in the ongoing MFL ADULT CHORUS. This is an always
popular class! Focus this winter will range from unison singing to 2 part singing to using percussion instruments during singing.

12:45 - 2pm GROUP PIANO LAB:
Build your piano skills in this fun group class. Participants will learn how to play chords and sing, play melodies in right hand and chords/bass in left hand and more. Even if you have some piano skills, this is a great opportunity to play with others.

4 - 5pm SPRING DANCE CLASS:
Let's keep learning some dances! The Spring Class will include breathing and stretching along with fun dance moves. Dancing is good exercise and it’s also a great social activity. Knowing the moves to a couple of dances will make every party so much more fun!
Goals: Dance skills, balance and coordination and fun!

Let's get our social media on as participants learn how to create posts on Instagram and Facebook that get maximum engagement! The class will make posts for Music For Life events as well as for local businesses. If the businesses like the posts then they will actually use them in their marketing campaigns!

Learn to use a variety of medium to express yourself and make art! Each class starts with a short lesson. Great for beginners who want to build skills and advanced artists who want to work on their own projects.
